Common Safety Orientation (CSO)
The Common Safety Orientation (CSO) is an industry-standard training program developed by Energy Safety Canada™ (ESC). It provides workers with the fundamental safety information required to work on most oil and gas sites across Canada. Many employers and prime contractors require CSO certification as a condition for site access.
The CSO course introduces workers to essential safety expectations, including:
- Personal roles and responsibilities
- Hazard recognition and control
- Preventing incidents and protecting the environment
- Reporting procedures and emergency response
This course is self-paced online, allowing workers to complete it at their convenience. A government-issued photo ID may be required to verify identity during the course.
Upon successful completion, participants receive an ESC digital certificate, valid for 3 years.
